Battle of Bau Bang II, when the 3rd/5th Cavalry was in III Corps. Read
this harrowing and pride swelling article from the 9th Inf Div's.
Octofoil Magazine, covering 5 pages. At least 230 Viet Cong Main Force
Regiment were killed during an extremely fierce, hard fought and mettle
testing 6 hour battle. All four Troops of the 3rd/5th Armored Cavalry
were challenged by an estimated Viet Cong force of 1,000. At least 5 VC
ambushes were dealt with along the battle fields covering a large part
of Route 13 with an expanded map showing the battlefield in depth. This
was the first combat victory of the 3/5 Cavalry which dealt a crushing
blow to the Viet Cong's challenges. Our own Capt. Roy Alcala is
mentioned, among others, utilizing their cav training to the maximum
advantage.
