These pages are from the 9th Infantry Division Octofoil website and cover the Battle of Bau Bang II, when the 3rd/5th Cavalry was in III Corps. Read this harrowing and pride swelling article from the 9th Inf Div's. Octofoil Magazine, covering 5 pages. At least 230 Viet Cong Main Force Regiment were killed during an extremely fierce, hard fought and mettle testing 6 hour battle. All four Troops of the 3rd/5th Armored Cavalry were challenged by an estimated Viet Cong force of 1,000. At least 5 VC ambushes were dealt with along the battle fields covering a large part of Route 13 with an expanded map showing the battlefield in depth. This was the first combat victory of the 3/5 Cavalry which dealt a crushing blow to the Viet Cong's challenges. Our own Capt. Roy Alcala is mentioned, among others, utilizing their cav training to the maximum advantage.

This was part of Operation Junction City, a security mission along Highway 13. Page 15 is missing from the Octofoil site.
