This is essentially a Memorandum from the 3rd/5th Cavalry to the 101st Airborne, who we were OPCON to at the time. The 3rd/5th was providing security for an Engineer Element constructing Route 547 into the A  Shau Valley. Fire Support Bastogne was mortared, setting up contact with NVA soldiers in and around the area.
