How to Get Your Photos On The Website

The Black Knights are here to help you and every vet to remember and deal with the past. Pictures of the past and present are one of the best ways to do so. The saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" doesn't do justice to the therapeutic value of seeing someone you lived through hell with.

Sending photos to the website is pretty straightforward. Most pictures from the Vietnam era are 3 1/2" X 5" and if they are scanned at 100 to 150dpi (dots per inch) in RGB color (whether or not the photo is black & white) they will be fine.

Save the file in "JPG" format, close to the high quality end of the compression range when that option is presented, usually around 60%. Prior to compression, the photo file can be rather large. Once it is compressed the file size drops significantly.

Send the photos to one of the Team Members by email. Just use the "Attach Document" Menu Button or Link to attach the photo(s) to the email and send it off. In the correspondence area of the email, make note of the information you would like included in the caption with the photo in your personal Black Knights Photo Gallery. This info would be like when and where it was taken, who is in the photo etc. The Team Members can be contacted through the Contact Us Page.

If there are scratches or the photo is faded out or damaged a little, that's ok. We can work some techno-magic to make it look better. We can also adjust the brightness and contrast of a photo that's maybe too dark or difficult to see who's in it.

If you don't have a scanner, lot's of people don't, here are a couple of ideas how you can still get your pics into the jpg format. If you have a friend who has a scanner, have them scan the photos and save them to floppy disk or CD. A place like Kinko's have scanning services and they will provide you with a CD containing your photographs for a small fee. Just make sure you tell them you want them scanned at 150 dpi and saved in JPG format.

Then, either use a computer to link to the internet and send the photos by email as described above, or mail them off to one of the Website Team Members using snail mail. (regular Post Office mail)

If you must choose the snail mail option, please be certain that we will treat your photos like we would our own, as treasured heirlooms.   Just place them between some stiff cardboard and mail them in a padded mailer. We'll scan them and have them back to you within 24 hours. Email one of the Team to get their home address. Possibly consider using a validation of receipt card or even insuring your photos.

One final note. Your pictures are images that you choose to share with the rest of the Black Knights and our website visitors. If you decide, in the future, that you don't want your pictures displayed or want to change them somehow, just contact a member of the Website Development Team.
