March 22nd - April 2nd 1969 –“OPERATION MONTANA MAULER” Quang Tri Province, I Corps

– Recon in Force through Khe Chua Valley (where Battle of Cam Hung had been fought earlier). This location was also known as Mutter’s Ridge. Combined units included 1^st Brigade 5^th Infantry Division, 3^rd Marine Division, I 3-9 Marines, 1^st Battalion 11^th Infantry, and 2^nd ARVN Regiment. All units were involved in heavy fighting against NVA forces in well defended trench and bunker complexes, resulting in 21 US KIA and 150 wounded. The 27^th NVA Regiment lost over 300 KIA.
