July 21 1969 Part of “OPERATION MONTGOMERY RENDEZVOUS” – Hill 937, A Shau Valley, Thua Thien Province, I Corps –

B-Troop, 3^rd/5^th Cav led the forced march up Hill 937 with A-Troop bringing up the rear to prevent the NVA from getting behind B-Troop. Fire Support Base Destiny was constructed. During the 9-day occupation of Hamburger Hill, a large NVA Sapper unit (suicide squad) was caught in the wire by alert troopers. The Sappers approached from the Laos side of Hamburger Hill and were decimated. None of the enemy got beyond the wire while A and B-Troops sustained no casualties. Definitely payback time for April 18^th.
